Singtel has been ordered by the Media Development Authority of Singapore to share three seasons worth of English Premier League (EPL) broadcast with rival StarHub.

This comes as the authority determined that Singtel “non-exclusive” contract with EPL came with a clause that would make it hard for StarHub to get content from EPL.

Wrote ZDNET,

“As the end of current three-year EPL deal nears, many in Singapore including rival StarHub were caught by surprise when SingTel in October 2012 announced it had secured the rights to broadcast the football league for another three seasons–this time, on a non-exclusive basis. By doing so, it had effectively omitted itself from the corss-carriage rule, leaving StarHub free to negotiate its own terms for an EPL deal.

However, after its attempts to secure a deal were repeatedly put off by the Football Assocation Premier League (FAPL), StarHub grew increasingly frustrated and in February threw a complaint to the MDA, arguing that the SingTel deal was in effect exclusive. It pointed to a “rebate” the FAPL, which manages the league’s broadcast and sponsorship agreements, might have agreed to pay SingTel if it chose to sell broadcast rights to StarHub.”

The cross-carriage rule meant that Singtel has to share exclusive content with StarHub, however, it didn’t say if StarHub needs to share the cost of the exclusive rights which Singtel paid for.

Singtel has said it would appeal and seek legal representation on MDA’s decision.

Wrote Photographer Darren Soh on his Facebook Photo above,

“I’m not sure why the PSI Index is ONLY at 40, but this really doesn’t look anything like “Good” to me.

Below: Today, 19th April 2013.

Both images made at about the same time of the day.”

Another Facebook user wrote,

“Who else in Singapore is experiencing the worst haze ever? The PSI reading at NEA (last taken at 4pm today) is 37, but those living in our area can attest it’s clearly >100 PSI, with a suffocating smell of smoke and poor visibility.

Called NEA and the person said the next reading will be taken at 8am (16 hr interval).”

The NEA readings at 4pm showed otherwise.

Twitter also had a fair share of haze spotters.

NEA’s PSI index reading looks to be outdated. Haze spotted across west and north parts of Singapore that I’m at.

is it me, is there a haze in #Singapore? PSI readings state otherwise. Can. Not. Breathe. And I’m not even asthmatic.

— Daphne Chui (@deafknee) April 17, 2013

Who was right about the haze? Singaporeans on social media or NEA?

Singapore has a “kiasu” culture which means the fear of losing out.

However, some officials in charge of the MRT are so fearful that the emergency button in the trains will be misused, they put up a big penalty lty warning to prevent misused. The hefty penalty means that passengers would rather be safe than sorry about pressing the emergency button, even if the situation calls for it.

A lady passenger was caught between the closing doors of a MRT train and faced the risk of being torn into half should the train moved. However, fellow commuters could only attempt to pull her in as they were fearful that pressing the emergency button would result in them having to pay the price of misused.

Wrote Lydia Fung to The Straits Times Forum,

I was caught between the train doors on the Circle Line last year. A woman inside the train tried to pull me in. I asked her to press the emergency button, but she said the button was not for this purpose, and that there was a hefty fine for indiscriminately pressing it.

I lodged a complaint after I got off the train at Paya Lebar station, but was told that the train was fully automated with no driver, and that there were cameras to alert staff to emergencies.

I received a call from SMRT a week later, telling me the same thing. I asked that the public be educated on the usage of the emergency button, but nothing has been done.

What if an elderly person or child is caught between the train doors?

If the emergency button is not for alerting staff to such incidents, then what are people caught between train doors supposed to do?

Even the SMRT staff have no idea what the emergency button can be used for. Is it considered an emergency until a passenger, stuck between closing doors, is torn into half by the departing train?

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs will be back in September with where they left off.

This time, the food somehow evolved into animals.

Be careful, “There is a leek in the car!”.

“In the original, hero Flint Lockwood invents and eventually destroys a machine that causes chaos in his hometown by turning water into food. Number two picks up shortly after, with Flint discovering that his machine is still operational — and now produces food-animal hybrids (such as the “Taco-dile Supreme”).” Anita Li of Mashable.

Seth Macfarlane hosted the Oscars 2013 and now is known in history for his “We saw your boobs” opening act.

Many tweeted negatively about the song but this is expected from Seth Macfarlene, who is the creator of the risque Family Guy series.

The song is something that you expect Peter Griffin to be singing in one of the episodes.

It can be expected that somebody will make a compilation of the all the boobs in a video.

The Sun has compiled the a photo collection of all of Seth’s boobs though. You can find it here.

Asia has a new top model. Crowned as the inaugural winner of the first-ever Asia’s Next Top Model, Jessica Amornkuldilok, 26 years old, came out on top against other top model hopefuls at an exclusive finale episode screening in front of media and invited guests at Stage 28 at the Universal Studios Singapore.

Nadya Hutagalung , head judge and host of the reality series, was on hand to announce and present Jessica with the winning photo, in true ‘Top Model’ fashion.

After months of grueling challenges which saw 14 girls pitch, pose and prance down runways and catwalks, Jessica Amornkuldilok of Thailand has emerged as the first winner of Asia’s Next Top Model, in the dramatic season finale of the show, which aired earlier this evening on Star World, the first and exclusive Regional Broadcast Partner for the series. As the reality series’ inaugural winner, Jessica edged out 13 other hopefuls from other Asian countries to come out on top. She walks home with a S$100,000 cash prize, an opportunity to be the face of Canon IXUS 2013 campaign, a cover feature with Harper’s Bazaar magazine, a Subaru XV, as well as a modeling contract with Storm Model Management in UK & Europe.

“I was absolutely shocked when Nadya read out my name! It came as a total surprise to me and I’m overjoyed to win such a prestigious competition. I’m honoured to also be crowned as the first ever winner on the show! It has been my dream to be a model and I’m glad I took part in this competition. It’s really a dream come true!” said Jessica, who could barely contain her excitement at winning the competition.

Out of the 12 photo-shoot challenges where contestants had to put their best pose forward, Jessica bagged the ‘Best Photo’ honours four times.

The inaugural season of Asia’s Next Top Model, the reality spin-off of the incredibly popular America’s Next Top Model, is the first ever version of the show with a pan-regional scope. The reality series saw 14 contestants from countries such as Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore etc. come together to vie for the prestigious title. They competed in 12 different model challenges and photo-shoots featured across 13 episodes that culminated in a showdown between the final three.

The season finale of Asia’s Next Top Model saw the three remaining finalists – Jessica Amornkuldilok from Thailand (winner), Kate Ma from Taiwan, and Stephanie Retuya from the Philippines – going head to head in a series of finale challenges, which included a Canon IXUS TV Commercial, the finale Runway show and a Harper’s Bazaar Cover shoot. International Supermodel and creator of America’s Next Top Model, Tyra Banks, and Kenneth Goh, Fashion Director for Harper’s Bazaar, were featured on the
judging panel which determined the first Asia’s Next Top Model.

Head judge and host of Asia’s Next Top Model, Nadya Hutagalung, who played a vital role in deciding the winner, was pleased with the final result.

“Jessica has the potential to take the modeling world by storm. She has a natural presence on camera and is able to show her personality on the runway. Her drive and ability to let down her guard is what gave her the edge. She has an ability to understand and translate the briefs that were given during the challenges. We believe that she will go on to fantastic modeling opportunities,” Nadya said, summing up the thoughts of the judging panel and on Jessica emerging as the first winner of the reality series.

Besides taking home the S$100,000 cash prize and a Subaru XV, Jessica will also be the new face of Canon IXUS 2013 campaign. She will also be featured on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar magazine, as well as a modeling contract with top modeling agency, Storm Model Management in UK & Europe, who has previously represented the likes of Cara Delevingne, Cindy Crawford, Eva Herzigova and Emma Watson amongst others.

Alvin Tan Jye Yee. the former scholar at the National University of Singapore, and her girlfriend, Vivian Lee, have launched their “Sexcussions with Alvivi” channel on Youtube.

Their latest video recording is an interview with Ris Low, another controversial figure who stepped down from her Miss Singapore Universe title, due to her credit card fraud conviction.

There is nothing much sexiciting about this video though. Besides learning that Ris will pose nude for a mere SGD600 and the girl on girl action, there is nothing much to learn from the video except for Ris broken English.
